Costa Mesa resident, 49, loved to tell jokes — usually laughing at a few of his own — his family says.

The Costa Mesa father of two and avid bodysurfer “had the memory of an elephant,” said his ex-wife, Jodi Watkins. It was something family members said they came to depend on for information.

Watkins was killed in a car crash Saturday in Manteca, where he was visiting his father for Thanksgiving. He was 49.

Watkins grew up in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Avila Beach and ultimately settled in Costa Mesa in high school. He graduated from Costa Mesa High School and went on to graduate from USC. He coached youth baseball and soccer and played in a local rugby team.

His 8-year-old daughter, Molly, said she loved watching “The Biggest Loser” with her dad and when he took her shopping for clothes.

His son, Brooks, 15, plays water polo at Estancia High School.

Watkins is preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah, and survived by his parents, Chuck and Thea; son, Brooks, daughter, Molly; brothers Chip, Marcus, Kevin and Jason; sisters Peggy, Brandy and Jenny.


In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Children of Tim Watkins Memorial Fund at Farmers and Merchants Bank, 1750 E. 17th St. in Santa Ana.

We celebrated Kent's birthday last Sunday with the family, so today was just going to be a low key day. We went to church and breakfast and just when Kent thought he was going to get to take a nap. Nope, the workers got a flat in Thousand Oaks so he had to drive there to rescue them. Still not home yet!

I thought this was cute of Hannah, I finally got rid of the highchair, I was tired of wheeling it around the kitchen. I bought this hanging chair like the one I keep in my car for restaurants and it works great!!

We had a funeral to go to yesterday and I wanted to something different in Amy's hair. So here it is. I think its cute!

We decided to go to the mall after the services to get the girls picture with santa. Hannah was not about it! Santa doesn't look so happy either! LOL!

Happy Birthday Rick. Can't believe it's been 19 years since I had you. You are a wonderful and precious young man. We are so proud of you and can't wait to see what the future will bring. I know you can succeed in anything you choose.

Thanksgiving

So we went to Ocotillo for Thanksgiving again. I wasn't really that excited to go this year. We left fairly late on Wednesday, so we just got camp set up and sat by the fire for a while before going to bed. Thanksgiving day we went on a couple of rides and cooked dinner in the motorhome. Friday, we meet up with some friends and rode around a bit. Amy had her first head on collision on top of a hill with another quad. Luckily, they were not going to fast but Amy did break her key off into her ignition with her chest protector. Shortly after that our friends boy fell he went over the handle bars and the quad flipped over him. He was ok too. However, for me I was just ready to pack things up and go home. I didn't enjoy that part of the trip and truthfully didn't feel like riding much after that. I will never forget the sound of the quads hitting. Just thankful that the kids were alright. Also on Friday my cousin and her family joined us, it was good to see them. Saturday Kent and Amy rode a bit and we packed up in the afternoon and came home.

Diane and Sean cam out to see us on Friday and spent the night. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the greatest this year. Lots of wind on Friday and some sprinkles on Saturday.

I took some shrimp and cocktail sauce with us out on a ride. Hannah LOVED it. She was double/ triple dipping and sucking all the cocktail sauce off her shrimp.

Lights are hung

The lights are up, the snow monster is out. Stockings are hung and the chair covers are on. Tree will go up tomorrow. I LOVE Christmas.

So as I mentioned in my last post we went to a dealership and came home with this.

average MPG just since we bought it..... 42!!!!

Love the interior, leather seats, sunroof, touch screen radio, automatic with the ability to drive it like a stick if one wanted to.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!

Thanksgiving feast

This has got to be the busiest week ever. With getting home Sunday night late from Hawaii. Monday night dealership after work with Rick to buy his car. Tuesday night our anniversary took the family to Anchos for dinner. Thursday lunch feast at Amy's school and then that night laundry. Friday night dealership to buy me a new car. Saturday night another dealership to buy me a car. Sunday; Church, cleaned out the garage to get 2 cars in, hung christmas lights, trader joes, started loading the motorhome, started decorating the inside of the house.

Ricks new wheels

Rick has been driving his 1999 Ford Ranger for almost 3 years now. It had well over 200 thousand miles on it and it was ticking. He has been looking at used cars and found this one a 2005 Chevy Malibu with all the bells and whistles. So Monday night we went with him to see the car and he came home in it.

I think its very nice and I am so happy and proud of him.

He didn't want me to take a bunch of pictures so he jumped in and is driving away from me. LOL. Welcome to the world of car payments son!

We love you and are very excited for you. (Don't tell Rick but Tuesday night me and amy took his keys while he was in the shower and gave it a test drive around the block). It drives really nice, very impressive.

Hawaii Anniversary trip

We went to Pearl Harbor.

This is so beautiful, moving and emotional.

After Pearl harbor and riding the bus we had lunch at the mall and came back to the hotel put our swimsuits on and went to the beach. It was so beautiful.

Friday 11/13/09 we got up and took a bus to Hanauma Bay to snorkel, the surf was pretty crazy so the water wasn't as clear as it should have been for snorkeling.

Our driver to the bay told us of this Catamaran Sail boat that takes you out on a hour and a half boat ride with unlimited drinks for $25.00 bucks, but if you mention his name they will do it for $20.00. Thanks Ike this was awesome. There was 3 workers and Captain Krash that seriously work the boat, bring you drinks, music, dancing and lots of drinking.

After the boat we were walking back to the hotel and the park had these awesome trees. They grow addition limbs down to help support the heavy limbs that grown out.

Still Friday, we booked a dinner at the Bali restaurant. So we could use our hotel dining credit. This was so delicious. I had the BEST prime rib ever and an amazing mozzarella and tomato salad and fresh asparagus lightly grilled!!

Saturday 11/14/09 we rented a car and drove around the entire Island. It poured on the North Shore so the hiking trails that we wanted to see were closed. We visited the Dole Plantation.

This might sound dumb but I didn't really know how pineapple grew. Its a bush. I thought it was a tree. hahahaha

Everyone said you must eat from the Shrimp trucks while on the North Shore. We were told Giovannis was the best.

Yes, this is truly the Shrimp truck!! You walk up order it they cook it on this truck.

So we drove back on this road to hike and came across this sign. Kent still wanted to hike, but I said no way.
